Pharmacy-based
vaccination can make
a big difference

Fawziah Marra from CORE and Janusz Kaczorowski from the department of family practice at UBC are leading a study on pharmacy-based immunization in rural communities strategy (PhICS).

This three year, CIHR-funded study evaluates whether a patient-focused strategy accessed via community pharmacies can be used to improve influenza vaccination rates in small rural communities within B.C. As such, we are conducting a cluster-randomized trial using community as the unit of randomization and the unit of inference.

The study will consider 25 communities based on a total population size of between 2,000 and 6,000 in Northern and Interior Health Authorities.
